To avoid the risk of infection, please arrive to appointment without makeup on and clean skin.
Any medication/supplement that thins the blood can increase the risk of bleeding/bruising. Talk to your healthcare provider if you take the following medications or supplements. (Generally, they should be avoided 7-14 days prior to injections):
• Fish oil, Aspirin, Naproxen, Ibuprofen, Warfarin, Xarelto, Heparin, St. John’s Wort, Garlic, Gingko Biloba, and Vitamin E. DO NOT stop taking medications without your doctor's approval.
• Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours before or after your treatment in order to prevent bruising/bleeding.
Please let your injector know if you are currently taking or recently taken antibiotics as these may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
Please let your injector know if you have ever had an allergic reaction to botulinum toxin of any kind.
Each producer of the botulinum toxin uses different additives that may cause allergic reactions. Please let your injector know if you are allergic to either of the following:
• Botox – human albumin
• Dysport – Cow’s milk protein
Please arrive to your appointment on time so that consents can be discussed and signed
The guidelines to follow post treatment have been followed for years and are still employed today to prevent the possible side effects of drooping eye (ptosis). These measures should minimize the possibility of ptosis by almost 98%.
• No straining, heavy lifting, vigorous exercise for 3-4 hours following treatment. It is now known that it takes the toxin approximately 2 hours to bind itself to the nerve to start its work, and because we do not want to increase circulation to that area to wash away the toxin from where it was injected. His waiting period continues to be recommended by most practitioners.
• Avoid manipulation of the area for 3-4 four hours following treatment. (For the same reasons listed above). This includes not doing facial, peel, or microdermabrasion after treatment with botulinum toxin. A facial peel or microdermabrasion can be done in the same appointment only if they are completed before the botulinum toxin injections.
• Facial exercises I the injected areas is recommended for 1-hour following treatment, to stimulate the binding of the toxin only to this localized area.
• Do not lie down or bend over for 3-4 hours following treatment. (This instruction has been employed for years by some practitioners, although, we have not been able to find out the main reason for this since many practitioners inject while the patient is in a lying position. Many practitioners do not adhere to this anymore.
• It can take 2-10 days to take full effect. It is recommended that the patient contact the office no later than 2 weeks after treatment if the desired effect was not achieved and not sooner to give the toxin sufficient time to work.
• Makeup may be applied before leaving the office. Some practitioners recommend avoiding Retin-A, Glycolic acid, Vitamin C, an Kinerase for 24 hours to the treated areas.
A few simple guidelines both pre and post-treatment can make a difference between a good result and a fantastic one.
• Do NOT, touch, press, rub, or manipulate the implanted areas for 6 hours after treatment. You can cause irritation, sores, and/or problems, and possible scarring if you do. • AVOID Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days after treatment. Bruising and swelling are common after treatment and may last up to 14 days. Arnica cream or pellets are recommended to decrease healing time.
• AVOID: Alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates (you may eat fruit), spicy foods, and cigarettes 24-48 hours after your treatment
• Avoid Vigorous Exercise and Sun and Heat exposure for 24 hours after treatment.
• One side may heal faster than other side. Lumps and bumps may be felt in the treated areas. These are normal and may be felt and seen for up to 2 weeks. Some lumps may last longer than 2 weeks and are considered normal if only felt and not seen.
• You must wait 2 weeks before retreating or correction. Additional syringe purchase is required for touch ups.
****Please report any redness, blisters, itching, or immense pain immediately if it occurs after treatment.****
